Trauma-Informed Yoga

"Trauma is a fact of life. It does not, however, have to be a life sentence. Not only can trauma be healed, but with appropriate guidance and support, it can be transformative. Trauma has the potential to be one of the most significant forces for psychological, social, and spiritual awakening and evolution." - Peter Levine Author of Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma

Transcending trauma through holistic practices like Yoga is what I am drawn to do. Trauma sensitive Yoga is a tool to heal and a tool to transform experiences, so that veterans (trauma survivors) can move forward with their lives.  Sessions include Yoga,  Pranayama, Yoga Nidra, Laughter Yoga and Guided Relaxation.

I teach/lead ten sessions at the Mental Health Unit at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Care Center in North Chicago, Illinois. I volunteer at the Post -Traumatic Stress Disorder Unit, the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery  Center and the Military Sexual Trauma Unit.

I would be remiss if I didn’t take this opportunity to Thank You for the amazingly positive affect that you and your Yoga sessions have had on our veterans and active duty personnel admitted to our inpatient psych units. For the past, almost 3 years, as a staff member on these units, I see firsthand how you have consistently made a difference in our patient’s mental stability by demonstrating true care and concern thru your work as a Yoga instructor on these units. Words can’t describe how your smile, your patience, your dedication and your special attention to detail with the individual are much appreciated. We (veterans, active duty personnel and staff) are blessed to have you. Thank You

We are so used to being told what’s wrong with us...and then, you tell us what’s good in each one of us; that there is beauty, goodness and peace within us, and our whole world changes. Someone believes in us, and sometimes, that’s all we need. Thank YOU!
